"Why? Because I'm your personal assistant or because I have some innate power that lets me be extremely fluent in the way of Shadows? That was a joke, in case you didn't get it. I suppose I shouldn't be bitter. Or surprised. No, I'm not surprised. Well, maybe at that fact that she's considering me for a student, but not at the attempted assassination. I mean, she tried to kill you, so why not me?"
Regina sighed. "I don't see why you shouldn't be bitter or surprised at her attempt to kill you. Nocturnes do not understand that killing someone is... out of place. Your reaction, however, tells me that this is your first assassination attempt."
"Kal, check our radius."
"On it." The ocelot quietly vanished off to check in a radius around the group to make sure that Nightingale was truly gone.
"She chose you because she trusts me to not keep morons around. My mother enjoys people who aren't morons... especially people who might be strong enough to assist in leading the Silence, which is what your position entails." Regina sheathed her swords, but kept a dagger at the ready. "There is no guarantee that she will decide to train you. My mother is more fickle than usual in her old age."
The Chief stooped to pick up her dropped shurikens, slipping back into their sleeve pockets again and striding back to Vincent. "Shall we-" She was broken off as she realized Vincent was saying the exact same things.
Regina frowned, looking perturbed. "Hmm. Interesting. Since you have already stated what I was about to say, we should continue on with our duties."
"We're clear, Regina," Kalyani announced as she appeared atop the car. "Far as I can see, Nightingale's gone back to their estate."
"No father nearby?"
"No Jack Frost. Apparently she was baking muffins after all."
Regina sighed. "Very well. Get in the car, Vincent, we're off to Titania's prison." Her visage became darker, and the air seemed to begin to charge with electricity. "They had bloody well better have an advancement ready for me. I don't want to play this game with the Doppelganger right now. Or, for that matter, ever."
