magic:
I have previously mentioned magic in several posts. How do humans draw on magic, though? They use something called the Spirit Zodiac.
The Spirit Zodiac is divided into five main spirit patrons: Tempest, Rime, Summer, Flora, and Night. These five are called the Spirit Vanguard, and take the form of dragons. Every person is under one of their domains, and what powers a person has is dependent on which patron they're under.
Beneath these five Vanguards are their closest allies, the coatl, powerful spirits that can be called into this world by some sorcerers. Beneath them are animal spirits, much like those from Native American mythos. Every person also has a spirit animal that they can call upon with less energy than other spirits, and who is a protector and adviser for them. Also, there are elemental spirits, lesser beings of energy from the same source as their Patron.

spirit animals:
Spirit animals are a key part of life in the Silence. They can vanish, appear, be insubstitutional, or even have substance and fight. Every person has a spirit animal, and this animal is usually a reflection of their personality.
Spirit animals can be any animal found on earth, and they are infinite in number, no matter how endangered that animal is. Keep in mind, however, that all spirit animals do not get along with each other: hares will not react well to people with wolves.
Additionally, the spirit animals can communicate either vocally in english or telepathically with their human.
common knowledge:
Though any human character can summon their spirit animal, what distinguishes a magic user is their ability to access the spirit world for themselves. Though curious humans would know of its existence from questioning their spirit animals, it is believed impossible to access by the populace due to careful measures by the Silence.
Additionally, most know of the existence of the Spirit Zodiac, and the Patrons are considered god-like figures to some.
People who claim to be able to access the spirit world are usually laughed at, a scornful reaction prompted by subtle propaganda campaigns through social media and numerous television shows for young children. Those who are proven to be unable to access the spirit world are publicly humiliated and laughed at to further reinforce this, and those who truly can are quietly added to the ranks of the Silence.
Why does the Silence do this? To continue the vow of Silence. If the populace were to learn of such abilities, cults would arise and magic users would be much less easy to control, and thus more prone to supporting opposing leaders, wrecking general havoc, and destabilizing the government.

- Tempest, Fang of the Maelstrom: People with Tempest as their patron tend to be serene yet short-tempered and quick to erupt, as well as are definitely fear-inducing when aroused. They command the forces of the storms: lightning, rain, thunder, and wind, but also have control over the air regularly and can cause breezes and tornadoes.
- Rime, Fang of the Tundra Wind: Cold and distanced, people with Rime as their patron are often like the winter: harsh, yet beautiful and enjoyable if you get to know them. They command ice, water, snow, and the frigid north wind.
- Summer, Fang of the Sun: Those who have Summer as their patron are known for moments of brilliance and are often the diplomatic leaders of a group. They prefer parley to war, but can still defend themselves should it come to battle. They hold power over light and fire.
- Flora, Fang of the Earth: Caring and steadfast, those with Flora as their patron usually are balanced and calm. However, should their vengeance be aroused, they can become poisonous and deadly. They command animals, plants, and the ground.
- Night, Fang of the Shadows: As their patron would suggest, those with Night are secretive and silent. They are prized by the Silence for their ambiguous morals and drive to get the job done. They command the darkness and illusions, and prefer to work by moonlight.

Q:
But Opal, now that we know all about the wonderful spirit zodiac, how do we get powers for our characters?
A:
That's a good question. You can get our currency "esteem" by posting. Using these points, you can purchase things such as powers for your characters in the Shop board. All human characters can call upon their spirit animal without buying anything from the shop.
